My interest in this band has always been an extension of my interest in Ohio, and the many other worthy musical offerings the state has kicked into the ring. Rocket from the Tombs... Scrawl... Styrenes... Prisonshake... Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments... For a state whose name serves as a punchline almost as frequently as New Jersey's does, that's a roster of artists to grab anyone by the lapels and demand some attention. Granted, I also harbor the common opinion that GbV released more than their share of records that went nowhere, but as a cultural phenomenon, I'm still happy to reap their joys on days like today when spring fever is handily burning a hole in the top of my weekend.
Listen (Real Audio):
The song they're playing in the picture: "I Am a Tree" [Listen]
An older one that I still like a whole lot: "Hey Hey Spaceman" [Listen]
* When in Cleveland, always remember to visit Cudnick's Tavern.
